Driving from Tabanan, you’ll find the rice terrace after your first 30 minutes. The road climbs up high into the hills, it was not a wide street. The cool weather winds up your face. Then you find the most unimaginable view that you have never imagined. This is the best finest view of rice terrace that I’ve ever seen. You can see the green endless contours, up and through is only green-green-rice field. When you are lucky, then you would be able to see the farmers working on their fields. The view of rice terraces is more beautifull than the one at Tegalalang in Ubud area.
Bali rice terraces are special, inspite of the photogenic, it is what the Indonesians proud of. This is the special nature view that you can only get in Indonesia. Rice is the staple food for the islanders. It has been cultivated for 2000 years. It was worked by hand tools previously. The changing generations have taken care to keep them in a meticulous shape.
Rice terrace is not only photogenic and staple food, it symbolyzes the cooperation spirit of Indonesian people. Formerly, the ancestors worked together hand in hand to produce the rice, they organized it in between the families. Today many of the rice terraces farmers are individual farmers, they create their own local communities. They also establish their own rules. This helps to make sure that the limited irrigation water is circulated fairly at the same time to every rice terraces. This irrigation system would maintain the water share and it will not let one blocks the flowing water.
So…it’s more than a deep breath ! Just find it out by yourself, I’m sure you won’t regret !
